Università degli studi di Siena: Established in 1240, it is one of the oldest and first publicly funded universities in the world. It has programs in political science, medicine, mathematics, physics, natural sciences, pharmacy, economics, law, engineering, and arts and humanities. It has approximately twenty thousand students. Its campus is within the historic city center.
Magistrato delle Contrade: The body that oversees the activities of the Contrade of Siena. It is composed of all the Priori of the seventeen Contrade and is chaired by a Priore elected annually who assumes the office of Rector. It is through the Magistrato that each year the students of our summer program have the opportunity to join the ten Contrade that compete in the August Palio.
