Francesco Erspamer is Professor of Italian and Romance Studies at Harvard University. He is interested in aesthetics, the history of concepts and forms, political philosophy and literature. His work deals mostly with the Renaissance, the 19th and 20th centuries and the problem of modernity. He believes that at this point only the humanities can save the world.

TEACHING ASSISTANTS

Federica Zanella is a PhD student in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Harvard University. She works on Italian and Latin American literature, with a focus on poetry and metaphor. Her research engages questions at the intersection of aesthetics, ethics and knowledge. She was born in Milan, where she completed her undergraduate and master’s studies.

Marie Prunières is a PhD candidate in Romance Languages & Literatures at Harvard University, specializing in French and Italian. Over the past few years, she has spent extended periods in Italy during her summer and winter recesses, living in Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples. She looks forward to sharing her profound affinity for literature, aesthetics, and Italian Renaissance art with you.

Yam Traiber is a PhD student in the Department of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. Her research deals with questions of fascism, political crisis, war, and family narratives in Italian, Hebrew, and Latin American literatures. She spent two summers in Italy  studying Italian, and she is looking forward to sharing with others her passion for Siena, Italian studies, cinema, and theories.
