In all residences and hotels, it is the students’ responsibility to tidy up the room every day and (in Torino) to keep the kitchenette clean. Smoking and drinking alcohol is prohibited in the rooms, as well as making noises that may disturb other guests during the night.

TORINO

In Torino students stay at the Santa Giulia Hotel e Residence, via Santa Giulia 41, 10124 Torino, tel. +39 011 436 7000, cell. +39 388 436 7000. The residence is 1.2 miles from the Stazione Porta Nuova, the city’s main railway station, and less than half a mile from the center of the city. Students will share studio apartments. Each apartment accommodates two students and has a private bathroom, free wi-fi, TV, air conditioning, and a fully-equipped kitchenette. There are laundries nearby (for a fee). Click here for more information on how to reach the Residence. Twice a week the apartment will be cleaned and there will be a change of linens and towels. Check in at the Residence Santa Giulia on Sunday, June 15, or the following morning. If you arrive on Sunday (recommended), you can check in at any time, but you won’t be able to access your room until after 1:00pm. Classes will be held at the Scienza Nuova Research Institute of the Università di Torino a little over two miles from the Residence (about 25 minutes by bus or 50 minutes on foot). Students will have access to the university cafeteria (Mensa universitaria Olimpia, lungo Dora Siena, 102/B, a ten-minute walk from your residence, open daily 12 noon-2.30pm and 7pm-9pm; a full meal costs 7.60 €).

MOLVENO

During our four days in the Dolomites we will stay at Garnì Lago Nembia (Località Nembia, 38078 San Lorenzo Dorsino), a quaint hotel located on the shores of a small alpine lake. All double rooms have private bathrooms and free wi-fi. Breakfast is included; dinner (also included) will be served in a nearby restaurant.

TRENTO

In Trento students stay at the Grand Hotel Trento, via Torre d’Augusto 25, 38122 Trento, tel. +39 046 152 6489. Very centrally located and close to the train station, the hotel has retained its fin-de-siècle atmosphere. All double rooms have a private bathroom, air conditioning, and free wi-fi. A rich breakfast is included. A small gym is available 24/7, free of charge. There are laundries (for a fee) nearby (precise directions TBA). Classes will be held at the Università di Trento in the building of the Dipartimento di Lettere e Filosofia, via Tommaso Gar 14, a ten-minute walk from your hotel. Students will have access to the university cafeteria (Mensa, paninoteca e pizzeria T. Gar, via Tommaso Gar 18, less that 100 meters from the Dipartimento di Lettere e Filosofia, open daily 11.45am-2.30pm (12 noon-1.30pm during the weekend) and 6.45pm-8.30pm (7pm-8pm during the weekend); a full meal costs 4.90 €).

SIENA

In Siena students are housed at Il Refugio, a historical residence in the heart of the city of Siena (Via del Refugio 4, 53100 Siena, tel. +39 0577 233 782). Click here to download a detailed map of Siena. The Refugio is very close to the Chiesa del Refugio, on the right edge of the map towards the bottom, below Porta Pìspini. This ancient building is less than ten-minutes’ walk from Piazza del Campo. All double rooms have private bathrooms and free wi-fi; they do not have air conditioning but do have fans. Students have access to the common areas of the Collegio and to the gardens. There is a museum on the ground floor, a gallery on the first floor, and a library on the third floor. Rooms at the Refugio have been reserved until August 18. If you have to leave on the 19th, please contact prof. Erspamer as soon as possible. There is a washing machine in the Refugio and laundries nearby (for a fee) (precise directions TBA).
Classes are held in a Università di Siena building nearby, the Presidio San Niccolò. Students will have access to the university cafeteria (Mensa universitaria Sant’Agata, via Sant’Agata 1, a 13-minute walk from your residence, open daily 12 noon-3pm and 7pm-9.30pm; cost of a full meal: 4.50 €).
